THE EFFECTS OF GA3, CRACK AND SOWING TIME ON THE GERMINATION OF CHRIST'S THORN (Paliurus spina-christi Mill.) AND JUJUBE (Zizyphus jujuba Mill.) SEEDS

Abstract

In this study, the effects of GA3, crack and sowing time on the germination rate in the seeds of Paliurus sipina-christi Mill. and Zizyphus jujuba Mill. were investigated. Besides, some seed characteristics were also determined. The seeds Zizyphus jujuba was sowed by the use 2 pre-sowing treatments and 14 sowing dates, between October 1- April 1. Seeds of Paliurus sipina-christi were sowed at the 13 sowing dates in the same period. As a result, in Paliurus spina-christi species, each capsule had the number of 2.72 seeds, and mean 1000 seed weight was 21.2 g. Mean 1000 seed weight of Zizyphus jujuba seeds was 308 g. In Zizyphus jujuba, the high germination rate was obtained from October sowing and 400 ppm GA3, 24 hour treatment or december and january sowings after treated 100 ppm GA3 12 hours.
