Abstract

AbstractThe literature suggests that extended work periods are associated with performance decrements on a variety of analytical tasks such as, numeric manipulation, logical reasoning, and search and recognition. However, little empirical research has been conducted examining the effects of extended work regimes on inference tasks. The present study investigated the effects of an extended computerized work regime on inferential and analytical task performance. Statistically significant performance accuracy decrements on an inference task were observed, while no significant accuracy decrements on analytical task performance were found. These results are evaluated in the context of the time‐at‐work explanation for decrements found in extended performance research.
