Abstract

Bromley R. D. F. and Morgan R. H. (1985) The effects of Enterprise Zone policy: evidence from Swansea, Reg. Studies 19, 403–413. Enterprise Zone policy is examined and the effects are assessed using detailed interview survey data from the Swansea Enterprise Zone. Industrial trends are analysed before and after Enterprise Zone designation with emphasis on the origins of enterprises, their size, function and ownership. Reasons for location in the Enterprise Zone are investigated together with the extent to which relocations have occurred at the expense of new developments. The Enterprise Zone has encouraged industrial redevelopment in the Swansea Zone by consolidating the trends well-established before designation. It is doubtful if the Enterprise Zone policy achieves more than this.
