Abstract

TWO strains of chickens, designated as R and S, have been selected from common ancestry at the Western Washington Research and Extension Center and have been described by Bearse et al. (1963). Large differences in the retention of mercury in the liver and kidneys between the R and S strains of chickens 96 hours after intramuscular injection of organic or inorganic mercury compounds at the rate of 3.0 mg. mercury per kg. of body weight were reported by Miller et al. (1959a, b). Similar differences in the retention of copper in the same strains of chickens following intramuscular injections of cupric acetate at the rate of 9.1 mg. copper per kg. of body weight were reported by Lillis et al.
