Abstract

The effects of diphtheria toxin on protein synthesis have been studied in the guinea-pig myocardium by means of cell-free systems. The effect of the toxin is located at the site of aminoacyl-tRNA transferring enzyme activity, as in other tissues. No effect on aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase activity was observed. The in vivo injection of a massive dose of diphtheria toxin had no effect on the aminoacyl-tRNA transferring enzyme activity of myocardial cytoplasmic fractions.
