The Effects of Delinquent Friends on Juvenile Delinquency

Abstract

본 연구는 비행친구가 청소년의 비행에 미치는 영향에 대해 청소년 자원봉사활동이 조절효과를 갖는지를 구체적으로 확인하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 서울아동패널자료의 제7차 년도 고등학교 1학년 1,368명을 분석대상으로 하였 으며, 분석방법으로 다중회귀 분석과 조절효과를 확인하기 위해 단순기울기 검증을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 청소년의 비행을 지위비행과 범죄적 비행으로 구분하여 확인하였으며, 모두 동일하게 비행친구수가 청소년의 각각의 비 행에 미치는 영향에 대해 자원봉사횟수의 조절효과를 확인한 결과 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났다. 구체적으로 자원봉사횟수의 수준이 낮은 집단의 경우 자원봉사횟수의 수준이 평균인 집단에 비해 상대적으로 비행친구수가 각각의 비행에 미치는 영향이 더 크게 나타났다. 반면에 자원봉사횟수의 수준이 높은 집단인 경우 자원봉사횟수의 수준이 평균인 집단에 비해 상대적으로 비행친구수가 각각의 비행에 미치는 영향이 더 작게 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 비행청소년들 을 대상으로 하는 자원봉사활동의 관리·운영의 필요성을 제기하였고, 그 효과를 높일 수 있는 방향에 대한 구체적인 내용을 제시하였다.This study aims to identifying the impact of adolescents’ volunteering activites as a moderator of the effects of delinquent friends on juvenile delinquency. The data set of Seoul Panel Study of Child(: SPSC) 7th wave was reanalyzed for this study. The subjects of this study were 1,368 frist-grade high school students at that time. The analysis methods used were multiple regression analysis and the simple slope test to identify the moderating effects. The results can be summarized as follows: The effects of delinquent friends on juvenile delinquency were moderated by the adolescent’s volunteering activities, as both status and criminal delinquency. Namely, the higher group of adolescents’ volunteering activities , the lower effects of delinquent friends on juvenile delinquency compared with mean adolescents volunteering activities and vice versa. Based on the results of the study, the need and ways to improve the managements system of juvenile delinquents’ volunteering were suggested.
