Abstract
Quadrupole-phonon excitation of the closed shells is added to the usual IBM approximation for the valence nucleons. The resulting spectra and B(E2) values can be reproduced with renormalised one- and two-boson interactions and one-boson E2 operators but the inelastic electron-scattering form factors are sensitive to the different radial shape of the core excitations.
