Abstract

The objective of this paper is to discuss the effects of convective heat transfer on the performance of inertial systems. This paper discusses the types of errors caused, their effects on calibration accuracy at both the system and instrument levels, and the total effects on flight accuracy of the system. The report draws on empirical information from the MX guidance system program at both the instrument and system level. Convective heat transfer is seldom considered, difficult to analyze, and in most cases easily eliminated.
