Abstract
A simulation of the characteristics of cold load pickup and the effect on distribution transformers is presented. This simulation computes the dynamic characteristics of thermostatically controlled loads and combines this data with load characteristics of residential customer appliances under starting conditions to derive the restoration loading curve. The thermal response of the transformer can be computed and an estimate of the effect on transformer life can be made.
