Abstract

Earth-cave dwellings have long been a typical form of housing in the loess regions of northwest China. This paper discusses the characteristic environment of such caves—especially the features of constant temperature and comparatively stable relative humidity—in connection with their effects on the human body. The author cites seven health-related advantages of cave dwelling, and recommends further study and construction of cave dwellings in order to promote good health and longevity and reduce disease among the Chinese population.
