Abstract

The effects of benzodiazepines on the in vitro K + stimulated release of 3H-GABA were investigated in rat cortical tissue. A facilitation of K + — induced release was seen at a low concentration (10 −6M), which is of the same order as that found by other workers to protect against pentylenetetrazol-induced convulsions in vivo . At a much higher concentration (10 −4 M) an inhibition of release was evident.
