Abstract

Fluorescence intensities enhanced by more than three times by the presence of avidin and considerable increases in the guest binding as a result of the promoted stability of the formed complexes. These are the main results from the sudies on biotin-appended dansyl-modified β-cyclodextrins, which were prepared to investigate the effects of avidin binding on the guest inclusion phenomena and the fluorescence properties of the cyclodextrin derivatives, such as 1, and demonstrate that avidin acts as an effective hydrophobic cap in the ternary complex of [avidin]–[CD host]–[guest].
