Abstract

Four treatments with three different antibiotic combinations were used in this experiment to investigate the effect of antibiotic injection upon egg production, percentage fertility, percentage hatch of fertile eggs, percentage hatch of total eggs set, and female body weight change. Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys were studied during their first season of production. The females receiving antibiotics exhibited higher percentage egg production. The difference, however, was not significant. No differences in percentage fertility, percentage hatch of fertile eggs, percentage hatch of total eggs set, and female body weight change were observed in this experiment.Females which received periodical vaginal swabbing produced significantly more eggs in both years (1967–1968) of this study. Also, days lost due to broodiness was less for the swabbed females both years.
