Abstract

The effectiveness of practical work in mathematics learning has been discussed by many authors. It is a fact, though, that practical work is used only sporadically in lower secondary school math classes. Reasons that might lead to decision are discussed. Results of a comparative study between Greece and Scotland are presented, focusing on culture as a differentiating factor of students' performance on materials developed by the author and of attitudes toward the method.
