Abstract

Five novels of poly inorganic coagulants were prepared: hydrolyzed poly aluminum chloride (PACl), hydrolyzed poly ferric chloride (PFeCl), poly aluminum hydroxy sulfate (PAHS), hydrolyzed poly aluminum ferric chloride (PAlFeCl) and hydrolyzed poly aluminum ferric chloride plus silicate (PAlFeCl + Si). Each of them was characterized using FTIR, NFTIR and XRD. The samples were compared with the conventional Alum and the commercial PAĆ. Implementations were carried out for the removal of some pollutants from the ground and sewage water. The topmost removal percentages of TSS, COD and BOD in sewage wastewater reached 92%, 88%, and 85%, respectively; using PAlFeCl. Whereas the ultimate removal percentages of Fe+2, Mn+2, TSS, COD and BOD were 99.7%, 99%, 92.0%, 89.0%, 91.0%%, respectively by PAlFeCl + Si. Therefore, PAlFeCl + Si is the superior poly inorganic coagulant, the co-polymer of aluminum and iron coagulants impregnated with silica is considered as a good one for sewage water treatment due to its reasonable price and good efficacy in this application, as well as it will solve the problem of water shortage and it could contribute as non-conventional water resources.
