Abstract

A nonperturbative method is developed for calculating the energy losses upon collisions of relativistic structural large-Z ions with atoms. By structural ions are implied those containing partly occupied electron shells. Usually possessing a large charge, such projectiles (e.g., fully or partly stripped uranium ions) are frequently employed in the experiments on modern heavy-particle accelerators.
