Abstract

Monte Carlo results for the irreducible particle-particle interaction in the two-dimensional Hubbard model are compared with a renormalized RPA single spin-fluctuation exchange interaction. Reasonable agreement is found for the parameter range which has been studied, giving support to the idea that the effective electron-electron interaction in the weak to moderately coupled Hubbard model arises from the exchange of single para-antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations.
