Abstract

The study assessed the Zingiber officinale (ginger’s) antipyretic activity. The main objective of the study was to determine the antipyretic effect of Zingiber officinale (ginger) rhizome crude extract on the body temperature of Brewer’s yeast-induced male albino rabbits. There were three groups studied in this experiment: the negative control group which did not receive any substance, the positive control group which received the paracetamol drug, and the experimental group which received the ginger crude extract. Results show that there were increases in the mean body temperatures of the rabbits belonging to the three groups after the administration of Brewer’s yeast. The positive and experimental groups showed significant changes or reductions in the mean induced body temperatures after the administration of the paracetamol and ginger crude extract respectively. Moreover, it was found out that the ginger crude extract was as effective as the paracetamol drug in lowering the body temperature.
