Abstract

The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of whatsapp groups as an informal channel in improving critical thinking skills and the ability to collaborate in science learning for primary teacher education students. The research method is a Design Based Research (DBR). The research sample was 80 primary teacher education students. Collecting data by tests, interviews, observation and documentation. The results of the study can be concluded that whatsapp has a positive effect on the treatment class by increasing critical thinking skills and collaboration skills in primary teacher education students. Based on the t test, there was a significant difference between the treatment and control classes. The application of WhatsApp in learning can improve critical thinking and collaboration skills for PGSD students or prospective teachers. The recommendation of this research is that whatsapp can be used as a tool to stimulate creative thinking skills.
