The effect of water restriction on urea retention and nitrogen excretion in the Kangaroo Island wallaby, Protemnodon eugenii (Desmarest)

Abstract

1. 1. Nitrogen balance was estimated in wallabies given water ad lib. or 50 per cent water-restricted. 2. 2. Water restriction did not influence nitrogen balance, but water-restricted animals excreted less urea than controls and maintained a higher plasma urea concentration. 3. 3. Water-restricted wallabies excreted less water in faeces than the controls but urine volumes were similar.
