Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of varicocele on the outcome of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Methods The 139 patients in vitro fertilization cycle were diagnosed by B-ultrasound, and 323 normal semen treated by IVF as control group. The rates of fertilization, cleavage rate, high quality embryo rate and pregnancy outcome in the IVF group were compared with those in the control group. Results There was statistically significant difference in fertilization rate, cleavage rate, high-quality embryo rate, embryo rate, clinical pregnancy rate between the IVF group and control group(P 0.05). Conclusions Varicocele can lead to the decline of IVF embryo quality, which has no obvious effect on pregnancy rate of abortion. Key words: Varicocele; Fertilization in Vitro
