Abstract

A detailed comparison is made between intrusive and non-intrusive fibre optic transmission sensors, in which the transmission medium is a variable refractive index liquid. The comparison takes the form of computer-simulated results based on physical models which include reflection losses, and experimental results obtained for both the intrusive and non-intrusive configurations. Experimental results support the approximation linearity of calculated results in the refractive index range for n3 from 1.3 to 1.6.
