Abstract

The purpose of this study is to use the Live ABC online GEPT Program to investigate the effectiveness of online English learning courseware for GEPT sample tests of reading comprehension practice. The instruments used in the study include a pre-test, a post-test, and an attitude questionnaire. The t-test and one-way ANCOVA were conducted on the participants' scores of the pre-test and post-test of reading. Data analysis of the questionnaires involved descriptive statistics. The findings illustrated that the experimental group did produce significantly improved scores in their English reading performance over the control group. As a result, the application of the experimental learning courseware, the Live ABC online GEPT Program, is proved to be an effective learning tool that could improve students' English reading ability. The results of the questionnaire showed that the experimental group had high attitude toward the Live ABC online GEPT Program; therefore, the anticipated outcome that learners in the experimental group will have high attitude and learning motivation toward the Live ABC online learning was supported. Therefore, findings of this study also suggested that the Live ABC online GEPT Program could be used as a tool to prepare students for GEPT certification.
