Abstract
To the Editor: Tumor mitotic rate (TMR) has been removed from the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) melanoma staging criteria 1 Gershenwald J.E. Scolyer R.A. Hess K.R. et al. Melanoma staging: evidence-based changes in the American Joint Committee on Cancer eighth edition cancer staging manual. CA Cancer J Clin. 2017; 67: 472-492 Crossref PubMed Scopus (1228) Google Scholar for T1 melanomas, though it is recognized as a related risk factor for melanoma-specific survival across all stages and in some multivariate models. Herein, we analyze the relationship between TMR and melanoma-specific survival using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database and compare the relative prognostic value of TMR and ulceration within this cohort.
