Abstract

Semiproducts of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy system were prepared using the PM techniques of rapidly solidified alloys founded on the new WA-N process. This process based on the melt atomization of aluminium alloys with high pressure water provides the cooling rate of a melt up to 10 6 K/s and over. The process is explosion proof, environment benign and economic. PM alloys based on WA-N process considerably exceed traditional casting alloys and those made by the granular technology in terms of mechanical properties. Possibilities for further amelioration of physical-mechanical properties of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu system are shown by means of the design of more complex alloyed materials with TM additions and the increase of their concentration, a deep degree of purification of powders and alloys from harmful admixtures, and optimum thermomechanical treatment.
