Abstract

An injection of tilmicosin phosphate (Micotil®) at arrival reduced mortality and morbidity (P<0.05) in two trials. Calves injected with tilmicosin phosphate in Trial 2 gained more (P<0.05) weight during the first 28 d than the control calves. Tilmicosin phosphate is effective in reduction of respiratory problems when used as a mass treatment at arrival on stressed light-weight calves. The reduction in morbidity using normal values for calves would more than pay for the mass treatment with tilmicosin phosphate.
