Abstract

A simple model is studied on the basis of Kogelnik's coupled wave theory in which a volume phase hologram is recorded by three infinite plane waves (two object beams and one reference beam), and subsequently illuminated by the reference beam. It is shown that both efficiency of power conversion and fidelity of reproduction deteriorate as the relative intensity of the reference beam decreases.
