Abstract

Objective To study the effect of 2% CHG skin disinfection solution in bath on preventing venous catheter-related bloodstream infection(CRBSI)of ICU. Methods From Jan 2011 to Dec 2012, patients with central venous catheter in ICU were given two stages studies before(using soap and warm water daily) and after interventions(using 2% CHG daily). The skin around the inserting catheter sampled respectively, to monitor the bacteria before and after inserting catheter 48 hours. Results CHG Bath for cleaning the skin surface was statically significant compared with the one using soap.Intervention group with center venous catheter in total 2 076 days, CRBSI infection with 2 cases while the control one with 1 583 days, CRBSI infection with 8 cases. The results show CHG bath significantly reduced the incidence of CRBSI. Conclusions CHG bath could significantly reduce the incidence of CRBSI and decrease and inhabit the growth of the transient skin flora .The CHG bath intervention is effective in decreasing the risk CRBSI.
