Abstract

Anemia is a predictor of poor prognosis in chronic heart failure (CHF). Treatment of anemia with erythropoiesis-stimulating agent has been expected to improve prognosis, but darbepoetin-alfa failed to improve it in CHF patients. Thus, other treatment options for anemia are needed in CHF. Chinese medicine Juzen-taiho-to (JTT) has been known to improve anemia. We examined whether JTT would improve anemia in the Dahl salt-sensitive (DS) rat, a model of hypertensive CHF.
