Abstract
AbstractDaily injections into female and castrate guinea pigs resulted in an increase in size and scent production of the perianal glands. Before testosterone application the glands were significantly smaller than those of entire males. After 45 days of treatment the glands of castrates and females were indistinguishable from the glands of entire males.The perianal glands must be considered secondary sexual characteristics. Social behaviour which is affected by exogenous testosterone may in some cases be affected via interference in the normal scent production.
