Abstract
Electromagnetic performances of induction motors with stator inter-turn short circuit (ITSC) faults are studied in this paper. A 1.1 kW squirrel-cage induction motor was taken as an example and rewound the stator winding coils. Through the calculation of two-dimensional transient electromagnetic field under rated condition based on the time-step finite element method (FEM), it shows that the symmetry of magnetic field distribution is destroyed, the stator currents and electromagnetic torque change a lot before and after the fault. By comparing the results of simulation and experiment, a fault character as well as the variations of electromagnetic fields and performances were carried out, providing a reference for the research of ITSC faults.
