Abstract

Eighteen, 48 and 96 hour periods of starvation lead to a progressive, marked decline in both total and independent, active “I” form of glycogen synthetase in the rat heart. The relative percent of “I” remains unchanged until the 96th hour at which time it, too, decreases. Skeletal muscle synthetase remains relatively unaffected during starvation.
