Abstract

A solution of the Riemann problem is studied for the system of equations describing the propagation of nonlinear waves in a weakly anisotropic elastic medium in the case when the problem has a nonunique solution. It is shown that the solution of the problem depends on small-scale processes of dispersion and dissipation. Dispersion gives rise to solutions that include special (nonclassical) discontinuities.
