Abstract
1. A study has been made of some meiotic stages of the Wistar rat-both male and female.2. The frequency of chiasma formation has been calculated in the diplotene stage for each animal.3. At metaphase the chiasma frequencies, coefficients of terminalisation and mean number of terminal chiasmata per bivalent have been calculated.4. A parallel is drawn between the cytological results recorded here and the genetical results given by Dunn (1920) and Castle and Wachter (1924).
