Abstract
The oil resistance behavior of polystyrene thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) such as polypropylene (PP)/polystyrene block copolymer (SBC) systems were investigated using a dynamic mechanical spectrometer (DMS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Testing oils used were paraffinic oil, ASTM oil #3, an automobile grease and petrol, into which all specimens were immersed at 1 000C for 72 hrs. Dynamic mechanical spectra showed that non-crosslinking segments of SBC were subjected to damage by testing oil properties. Particularly their segments seemed to be more soluble and swelled by paraffinic oil or ASTM oil #3. TEM photomicrographs of immersed specimens showed similar results.
