W. Abstract The author's previous treatment of a test particle with self-gravity in general relativity is elaborated. The effect of the particle's self-gravity on the equations of motion is examined. For the special case of a spherical star with uniform density and uniform magnetization in an ambient magnetic field, calculations based on a flat background spacetime and a Newtonian self-gravity indicate that both the force and the torque on the magnetic dipole are 1+8GM/(5c2R) times those given by the Lorentz force, where M is the mass and R is the radius.
