P. ; Das, M. K. ; Tandon, J. N. Abstract The effect of a general magnetic field (mixed poloidal and toroidal type) and rotation on the global solar luminosity, radius, and effective temperature has been investigated. The possible interaction between the rotation and magnetic field has been considered. Model calculations show that changes in various solar parameters are significant as a result of the modification of the magnetic field profile due to rotation. It is shown that the solar luminosity during the active phase is likely to be less than that during the quiet period. Further, it is mainly the change in the solar radius that is responsible for the observed solar cooling during the period of activity.
