Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effect of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students' mathematics achievement in middle school mathematics lessons. For this purpose, a 6-week program was created in which the RME approach was employed. In order to determine the effectiveness of this program, an experimental group using the RME approach and a control group using traditional teaching method were randomly determined. In order to reveal the effect of the program prepared with RME on mathematics achievement, a "mathematics achievement test" was used at the beginning and end of the experiment. The findings showed that the RME approach has a positive effect (effect size 0.6721) on academic achievement compared to the traditional teaching method. Based on the results obtained, it is recommended to be used in mathematics lessons since the RME approach increases academic achievement.
