Abstract

An analysis is given for the potential incompressible flow through compressor cascades with periodic one-blade setting errors. The effects of three components of errors (chord-wise, cascadewise, and angular) on the cascade performance are predicted. It is shown that setting errors can produce substantial changes in the aerodynamic parameters of a given cascade. However, the cascade performance appears to be more sensitive to angular errors than it is to other types of error. The analysis, which is essentially a modified Schlichting approach, leads to “influence coefficients” that may be used to predict the effect of a periodic setting error in more than one blade on the loading of any of the cascade blades.
