Abstract

A partially protein deficient diet caused a very marked suppression of the X zone of the mouse adrenal. A 77% casein diet resulted in appreciable reduction of the X zone, indicating that the X zone is maximally developed at moderate levels of dietary protein. Replacement of a part of the carbohydrate by a mixed fat was without any marked effect on the X zone. The X zone was larger on a synthetic diet than on chow.
