Abstract

Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and subsequent blood transfusion contribute to maternal morbidity in the United States. Preeclampsia (PEC) is a state of hemoconcentration, and women with PEC may be more susceptible to clinically significant blood loss. Further, maternal hypertension may mask clinical indicators of blood loss. The objective of this study is to determine if PEC increases the odds of blood transfusion after PPH.
