Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of posterior scleral reinforcement for treatment of high myopia macular splitting. Methods Fifteen myopia patients(20 eyes)who had macular splitting underwent posterior scleral reinforcement surgery.Main outcome measures included best-corrected visual acuity, refracfive error, axial length, optical coherent tomography findings and surgery complications. Results Best corrected visual acuity improved significantly after surgeries in the following-up period(P < 0.05).Myopic diopter and axial lengths also reduced significantly(P < 0.05).OCT showed the split-cavity between the inner and outer retinal layer reduced in different degrees, the thickness of the retina declined significantly(P < 0.05).No serious complications were observed. Conclusions Posterior scleral reinforcement surgery is effective and safe for treatment of high myopia macular splitting with or without retinal detachment.
