Abstract

Six polymers representing different side-chain charges, molecular weights, and degree of cross-link are studied for their water and nutrient retention in soils. The results indicate that superabsorbent polymer representing high degree of cross-link help the soil retain water best. Polyacrylamides help the soils from being washed away (by increasing the sedimentation rates). Polyacrylamides also help the soils retain the calcium ion nutrients.
