Abstract

The impact of political repression on instances of collective violence in regions likeAfrica, Russia, and Myanmar is a complex and significant area of study that examines how repressive measures taken by governments can contribute to the emergence and escalation of collective violence within these regions1 . This phenomenon underscores the intricate interplay between political, social, andeconomic factors that can give rise to violent responses from marginalized or dissenting groups. In Africa, political repression can manifest through authoritarian regimes, lack of political freedoms, and human rights abuses2 . These conditions often lead to frustration and discontent among the population, potentially resulting in collectiveviolence such as protests, riots, or even insurgencies. Repression may stifle legitimate avenues for dissent, compelling aggrieved groups to resort to violent means to make their grievances heard.
