Abstract
The accurate representation of the transmission line parameters is essential for several monitoring and control applications accommodated in the control center of the power system. In this sense, it is always important to update the database of the transmission line parameters which might be obsolete and/or contain erroneous parameters. The validation and the correction of any inconsistencies related to the power system model is one of the natural applications of the Synchronized Measurement Technology. One way for line parameter refinement is the use of Phasor Measurement Units at the two ends of the transmission line. In this paper, the error that is associated with the calculation of the line parameters is examined. The effect of uncertainties that are introduced to the PMU measurements by both instrument transformers and PMUs on the calculation of the transmission line parameters is investigated by performing several case studies in the IEEE-14 bus system.
