Abstract

One of the major challenges of more electric aircraft (MEA) is electrical systems and electrical components design, especially machines design because the electrical machines (EMs) are one of the most important components in electrical power system (EPS) on MEA. Another challenge is that the stability issue due to constant power loads (CPLs). The system will become unstable and will be unable to operate continuously. In this article, modeling and stability analysis of the DC EPS in MEA is presented. The DQ method is used to derive the system mathematical model and the large-signal stability analysis via the phase plane analysis based on the resulting mathematical model is used to investigate the effect on system stability due to the variations of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) parameters and operating conditions. The analytical result validations using the intensive time-domain simulation in MATLAB show that the PMSG has a significant influence on the MEA EPS stability. These results are very useful for engineers to design the EMs for MEA in terms of stability issue.
