Abstract

Subcutaneous administration of PMSG in doses ranging from 0.5 to 100 IU artificially induced ovulation in the shrew Crocidura russula monacha. The percentage of animals ovulating and the number of ovulated ova were dose dependent up to 5.0 IU of PMSG. The time required for PMSG to cause ovulation in the shrew was 15 to 16 hr after the injection of the hormone. The minimum age at which PMSG caused ovulation in immature females was 16 days after birth. The left ovary usually had more corpora lutea under all conditions.
