Abstract

POULTRY breeders who enter the random sample egg laying tests frequently become concerned about the possible influence of pen location on the performance of their entries. This is true to a greater degree when the various stocks are housed in different buildings than when all stocks are housed in the same building or replicated in two separate buildings. The physical layout at the Central New York Test provides an opportunity for evaluating the effect of pen location since the entries are housed in five different houses, four of which have small feed rooms at one end. The layout permits many types of comparisons. Also data are available for ten different test groups each of which was randomized into 33 different pens.Actually 14 tests have been completed but the data for four years were excluded for the following reasons.
