Abstract
Most equations of state for fluidized beds have been derived in two different ways, by extending single-particle drag models, and by extending packed bed models. A number of diverse equations have been critically compared, and their limitations explored. When these equations are used to infer kinematic wave velocity, greater disagreement in the predictions is evident. In some cases, the conclusions reached about transient void phenomena may depend upon the equations used.
