Abstract

Background Theoretically, faster end times are expected when performing an explosive start in a 1500m time trial in speed skating and cycling1,2. In practice this appears to be particularly true in cycling, but not as much in speed skating 1,2. Isometric contractions, a typical technique and a variable crouched position that distinguish speed skating from cycling seem to impact on optimal pacing strategy.
